How To Record A Professional Podcast From The Tailgate Of A Pickup Truck

It’s true. I just did it. :-)

This past weekend, my marketing junkie buddy Jonathan Taylor and I attended the 48 Days Write To The Bank Workshop. It was an awesome event.

While we were at the event, we decided to record a podcast and play with a new toy.

It’s the Zoom H4n recorder. The Zoom is awesome!

We went out to his truck and grabbed the equipment which consisted of

(1)   Zoom H4n Handy Portable Digital Recorder

(2)  Behringer XM8500 Dynamic Cardioid Microphones

(2)   xlr cables.

Within five minutes, we were recording a podcast from the tailgate of Jonathan’s pickup truck. If you would like to hear the podcast we recorded, click here and fast forward to about the ten minute mark.

What I like about the recorder, besides the amazing sound quality, is the fact that it has two xlr hookups so you can hook two microphones in at the same time.  I have a local site that I plan to do local interviews with people and this will work great. Here is a picture of the hookups.

The Zoom H4n has an SD card that you can pull right out and slide into your computer for editing or uploading. As you might know, I am a fan of video podcasting as well so we decided to shoot another quick podcast the next day but we used my Canon Vixia HF200 camera this time.

Guess what we used for the audio recording? You guessed it. I posted the video below.

When you watch the video, keep in mind we were ten feet away from a bunch of other attendees and we were also outside as well yet the quality of the audio is still awesome.
